Oh well, it was only a matter of time. Shane Watson got knocked over by a gust of wind, or something like that, and now his knee is buggered, maybe. There’s only so many times a horse pulls up lame before the owners take it out back behind the sheds and put it out of its misery.
The official verdict is a “quadriceps strain.”
Watson is going to give Andrew Symonds a run for his money as the biggest distraction Australia will have had on this tour.
This is exactly why the selectors needed to pick another specialist batsman instead of 40 “allrounders.”
They made a documentary on the Rajasthan Royals that came out after their victory in the 1st edition of IPL. In it, Shane Watson was shown taking so much care of his body that he often missed the team bus to the hotel because he was rigorous in his recovery regimen after every match … and that was for T20.
So it looks like there is not much lacking in the “effort” department.

“You don’t get any medals for trying.” – Bill Parcells, 2 time Super Bowl winning coach with the NY Giants.
Effort, trying, etc. Results are what matters!
Bill Parcells would have cut Shane Watson or traded his ass instead of dealing with these ridiculous episodes.
I wouldn’t put it past Watson to be ruled out of a match with hangnail at least once before his career is through.

Don’t go too hard on the guy. Gokul is right. I think he needs to be rigorously tested before he is drafted. The talent is not lacking, the fitness is. Or if there is a serious irreparable problem, then too bad. He can’t just go on tours and get injured and come back…

“Don’t go too hard on the guy.”
What? He’s an Australian. They are supposed to be born hard, hard as nails in fact. He is softer than the feathers of a kookaburra sitting in a gum tree. I’m waiting for The 12th Man to do a total piss take on him for his next album.
